Quick project overview:

Ports of Origin: Savannah and Mobile

Type: Out of Gauge, Oversized, Breakbulk

Cargo: 50 flat rack containers carrying heavy press machines, additional breakbulk freight pieces

The challenge:

The project involved the transportation of 50 flat rack containers carrying heavy press machines and several breakbulk freight pieces that required specialized handling. This project’s complexity presented multiple challenges:

  • The precise coordination necessary for port discharge operations

  • Meeting regulatory and safety requirements for over-dimensional transport

  • A seamless freight strategy to encompass drayage, transloading, and long-distance final delivery from both Savannah and Mobile ports

How we did it:

Drawing on our vast experience with oversized and OOG freight logistics, we mapped out exactly what portions of the journey we would need to cover, the trucking and labor required, and obtaining the correct permits, escorts, and road closures necessary to provide a safe transportation route.

We arranged direct discharge of breakbulk pieces at the Port of Savannah, immediately deploying professional escorts to ensure the legal and safe transport of all oversized cargo from the port.

After gaining clearance through Savannah and Mobile’s customs, we brought multiple trucks to our facility, where the over-dimensional portion of the shipment was swiftly transloaded and then loaded onto our long-distance truck fleet. Since a flat rack container has no side walls, it was crucial to be precise and load safely. After pickup, we took the transloaded heavy press machine cargo directly to the building project site to complete the long-distance final delivery.

The result:

As a direct result of our meticulous planning and execution, AIF completed the project ahead of schedule without a single safety incident. All 50 flat rack containers and breakbulk pieces were delivered securely and successfully, safeguarding our customers’ investment and maintaining a strict delivery timeline.
